Two Air Force officers who survived the crash of a B52 Strategic Air Command
nuclear bomber Monday in northwestern Maryland undergo final checkups in
Cumberland, Maryland Hospital prior to their release Friday.
Maj. Thomas W.  McCormick, 42, of Yawkey, W. Va. (right) pilot of the stricken bomber,
and Capt. Parker C. Peedin, 29, of Smithfield, N. C. (center) the co-pilot, survived the bailouts.
McCormick made his way to safety later Monday, and the North Carolina officer was located
the following day.  Two other crewmen were found dead, and the fifth member -- tail gunner
Melvin Wooten, 27, of Tohatchi, N.M. -- still was being sought Friday by air and ground
rescue units in the New Germany area of Maryland, near the Pennsylvania State Line.
