Salisbury Community Band

Modern bands came in 1938. Chester J. Singer became the instructor in the school system and soon took charge of the Community Band. This band was involved in many competitive engagements in 1940 and throughout the next fourteen years compiled an impressive record of success. During the last four years of existence, this band was sponsored by the local post of the American Legion. W. D. Weise was the only marching instructor. This band made 300 appearances in parades, concerts or contests. Ninety-seven were in Salisbury and 203 were out of town. The band won 122 first prizes, 10 seconds, 2 thirds and failed to win a prize only 14 times.
